Norway in a Nutshell

an iconic journey through the fjords, valleys, rivers, towns, and passes of Norway
YOUR DREAM VACATION STARTS HERE

This voyage by Jeni is an iconic itinerary through Norway known as “Norway in a Nutshell”.  We began our tour by exploring the colorful, charming city of Bergen. From Bergen, journey to Voss via the Bergensbanen rail. From Voss you must travel by motorcoach to the small village of Gudvangen, where you will enjoy an afternoon fjord cruise down the narrow Næroyfjord and through Aurlandsfjord (a tributary of the Sognefjord) to Flåm. You may wish to enjoy hiking, fishing, kayaking, and fjord safaris with Flåm as a home base. The Ægir microbrewery in Flåm offers a Viking Plank 5-course dinner paired with their signature brews that is worth the journey to this remote village.

The Flåm Railway or “Flåmsbana ” is considered one of the world’s most beautiful train journeys. Over the course of one hour, travel in a vintage train compartment from sea level at the Aurlandsfjord in Flåm, through 20 tunnels (18 of which were dug by hand) to Myrdal mountain, 2,844 feet above sea level. With 80% of the journey at 5.5% grade, it is one of the steepest standard gauge lines in the world. The train takes a five-minute photo stop at the Kjosfossen waterfall where you can disembark and go out onto the platform. From Myrdal, you continue on the Bergen Line via a modern train to Norway’s capital, Oslo.
